Story:
Alex intended to give Magic a few more months before starting to compete her, however the mare had other plans. For the last two weeks now she trained harder than ever, throwing into her work body and soul. Alex couldn't ignore this. It was as if she was trying to outshine his other horses, and for her this was odd. Magic had always been a laid back easy-ride who wasn't overly phased or excited about anything.
Something had changed.
The mare performed all her usual movements with added enthusiasm, pushing her own limits without her rider having to ask her for anything. Her trot was perfect, her canter balanced and expressive, her piaffe was extravagant and animated- equal to any top dressage horse, more than he thought he'd ever get out of her. He'd thought that the traumatic Roll-kur training from her past had permanently made her unsuitable for higher level classes, as she backed-off any higher movements and lacked passion.
Something had definitely changed.
This change was the reason they were now preparing to enter a training dressage class. Magic snorted beneath Alex and he felt it vibrate through her, and he understood. It was as if their minds had become one somewhere over the last few days. A unmistakable bond of trust and partnership. He could sense what she was thinking as he rode her, and she responded to even the tiniest changes in his position, reading his body like he would read a book. She was excited now, twitching slightly as he walked her a last time before entering the arena.
Later:
Alex unsaddled the great black mare and softly stroked her neck. She nickered at him softly and searched his pockets for any chance at a treat. Alex fished out a piece of carrot and gave it to her. He then flung his arms around her neck and held on tightly, the mare snorting in response to his affection.
"You were incredible girl; you are INCREDIBLE..."
